A Record-Breaking Performance By Dallas Mavericks Luka Doncic In The NBA

In a Tuesday battle against the New York Knicks, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks made an NBA-first finish. In a dramatic overtime victory over the Knicks, the Mavericks defeated them 126–121, giving Doncic his best performance of the season.

A player achieved those game numbers for the first time in NBA history when Doncic scored a career-high 60 points, added another career-high 21 rebounds, and handed out 10 assists. Then, with just 33 seconds left, the 23-year-old player assisted his side in overcoming a nine-point deficit.

According to the NBA, this was the first occasion in 20 seasons where a team overcame a nine-point deficit or more with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game and ultimately prevailed. Except for the Mavericks, the NBA stated that 13,884 teams had not accomplished this feat since then. Doncic is at the forefront of this historical record.

Doncic deliberately missed a free throw and secured a rebound on Maverick’s last play. He subsequently connected on the shot, forcing overtime against the Knicks. In the closing minute of play, Doncic scored 10 points and added seven more in the extra period.

The 60-point triple-double by the Slovenian basketball sensation allowed him to join the likes of James Harden, the only player in the NBA history to accomplish this feat. Aside from James Harden and LeBron James, Doncic is one of just six players to have recorded six or more 40-point triple-doubles, along with Oscar Robertson, Russell Westbrook, Wilt Chamberlain, and Russell Westbrook.

“We just saw it on the screen right now. We were watching NBA TV. I mean, it’s just incredible to be in those comparisons and just to be with those guys, at any stage. It’s amazing for me,” Doncic said.

Doncic Is Bringing Pride To The Mavericks

By outscoring Dirk Nowitzki’s 53 points against the Rockets in 2004 by 10, Doncic’s performance throughout the game set a new Mavericks franchise record. As a result of their victory, the Mavericks are now sixth in the Western Conference with a record of 19–16 for the year. The New York Knicks, meanwhile, suffered their fourth straight defeat and dropped to sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

“Just with age, he has a birthday coming up here in the new year. I think he’s seen it all at the age of 23. But just his competitiveness to win is at a very high level — and you saw that displayed tonight,” said Jason Kidd, head coach of the Mavericks…Read more
